My weight loss journey.

December 17, 2019

Over 3 years ago I made a huge change in my life to get healthy, or at least try to. It has been a long journey for me but it started really because I had drawn the line in the sand and I had crossed that line, in terms of my weight I told myself I would never be over 300lbs and if I ever did I would make changes and this is where my journey started.

It was Thanksgiving 2016 and I was at my sister’s house for Thanksgiving. It was like any other normal family gathering, food, family and fun. I had happened to be getting ready in the morning for our Thanksgiving day festivities and saw that the bathroom I was in had a scale so I was like why not see what I weigh. I had no fantasies thinking I was skinny and knew I had weight to lose, but when I jumped on that scale I wanted to cry. I looked down at the scale and saw I was over where I drew my line, remember where I said I had drawn the line in the sand? Well I jumped that line, I weighed in at 335lbs or more. I sat there and let it sink in, I think I cried a little bit but when I was done feeling sorry for myself I decided right then and there that I was going to make some changes for myself and my families sake. I have 2 kids and 1 grandson and I wanted to be there for them. So I went on with the holiday season as normal not really saying anything to my friends or family about what I going to do or even how I was feeling.

After the holidays were over and the new year started I jumped on the life changing decisions I wanted to make. I cleaned out my cupboards and bought all new food based on the lifestyle I decide to live. This might not be for everyone but I decided to go Keto, which I had looked into many different ways to look at what I ate and change how I made food. I found out that I had a handful of friends that lived this lifestyle and had the support from them to get me kickstarted and keep me on track.

Over the next 2 and half months I started prepping foods, reading recipes from others that were doing this too, but the biggest change I made was paying attention to labels and cutting out unnecessary carbs and sugars. Eating more green veggies and unprocessed foods and meat. I started feeling better, sleeping better and eating less. All of these changes I noticed in the first 2-3 months. I use to snore really bad, didn’t sleep well due to that and even had family members worried I was going to die in my sleep. And now I was hardly snoring, sleeping better and my body really felt better over all in just a short time. You may ask that’s great but how was the weight loss going so far? Well, I had lost almost 40 lbs in the first 3 months or so.

I loved what I was doing and didn’t feel as if I was missing out on anything at all. Thanks to many groups and people I reached out to and talked to about this and even took inspiration from to help me along this journey, such as The Keto Dad on Facebook and Diet Doctor, they really helped me get past some of the hang ups and misconceptions of how this diet/lifestyle works.
